Today would have been Eric Haydock's 79th birthday. Eric was a founding member of the Hollies who had many hits in the 60's, 70's and 80's although Eric left the band in 1966 after they had many of their big hits. Eric was a very vocal supporter of GNE and could normally be found at GNE moaning about the cold weather in Glossop or about the referees parentage and whether he had a father or not, quite often screaming at the ref. He often said the weather was 'too cold' for him and 'I'm not coming next time, it's too bloody cold' but he kept coming back, right up to his death in 2019. I for one, am fortunate to have known Eric for a quite few years before his death.

I did not know him as well as you Dicey, but i watched him perform at the Stockport Plaza only a few months before his death. I also booked him and the Hollies in the 90's to perform at the Victoria Hall in aid of the Glossop Children in Need Appeal.

When Eric moved to Padfield, he joined our local walking club, the Powsers in the nineties and came out with us most Sundays. Him and Ken Dibble our president, had a comedy partnership on the hill that was entertaining and worth getting up just to listen to their entertaining banter.
