A very welcome win after the tough outcome of the trip to Workington. Colne started the better team and had a few shots not far away early on. Then GNE took control - a lovely interpassing move on the right led to a cross which Jamie Rainford headed home. Soon afterwards, the GNE press caused a Colne defender to lose the ball. It was played through to Keaton Mulvey who finished calmly.
Second half, Colne built a fair bit of pressure. GNE defended well but were struggling to hold onto the ball. Luck then intervened as the Colne keeper missed his kick leaving Jamie the simple job of tapping home the third. All seemed set fair but then Colne won a penalty. It seemed to be for handball and Ekow Coker was given a red card.
The penalty was converted in good style. Moments later, a poor clearance led to a cross from the left which was volleyed home with some force. The GNE crowd feared the worst but the whistle went on a 52 minutes plus second half to leave the home team with a very valuable three points.
A decent crowd of 311 went home with the majority happy with a GNE win.
