Lots of positives today. Crowd 479. Good atmosphere and clubhouse busy after the game. We are now unbeaten in 10 games. OK, we are the draw specialists in this division - 11 draws in the league. Ironically, Trafford are next with 8 draws but then the next best are on 5! This is probably why we have only risen to 14th on goal difference after such a good run. Never mind, draws are better than losses and the consistency we are showing is very encouraging.
Another feature today was former GNE players in the away squad. Goalkeeper Matt Cooper, who famously played his first game for Glossop at Wembley in 2009, reserve keeper Jon McIlwaine, Astley Mullholland (who scored the first goal for Glossop in the NPL v Spennymoor back in 2016). Finally Keil O'Brien who Steve Young gave a debut to in the opening game of the 2009-10 post Wembley season - a Glossop lad.
As for the game, the pitch is below its usual standard and that is probably down to the two year disruption which seems to have badly affected the surface. The first half was pretty even but the ball was noticeably difficult to control. GNE went ahead on 38 minutes. It was a terrific goal from Rory Fallon - a super strike from outside the box which arrowed into the net. (We have to be honest and admit that a GNE player was well offside in the early stages of the move.)
GNE began the second half well and came close to increasing their lead. Trafford then grew into the game and started to stretch the GNE defence with some slick passing. Harry Allen pulled off a wonder save to keep GNE ahead but it came as no surprise when Connor Hughes beat Allen to level the score.
A good moment came in the 88th minute when Lewis Bradley came on for Jamie Rainford. Lewis has developed through the Juniors and is the latest example of the increasingly effective co-operation within the GNE Community Club - and Lewis had several effective touches in his short spell on the pitch.
Overall, another positive day at the Amdec Forklifts Stadium!
