Just heard this morning from former player Niven Howlett that one of our former players and manager for a few seasons in the mid and late 80's, For those not familiar to the club prior to 2009, Tony Webber died just before Christmas after a long illness. Tony came to Glossop towards the end of his playing days when his former team mate Brian Grundy, manager at the time, brought him to the club and he took over as manager when Brian moved to manage Mossley. Tony was formerly part of the Morecambe FA Trophy winning team of the mid seventies, setting up 2 goals, and also played for Altrincham and Horwich RMI.

Not been on the message board for a few days, so very sad to read this Frank. Please send my condolences, and my Dad and Mum's too, to Tony's family via Niven, or if you get in touch with them at all.
Always remember Tony, I think he's actually the first Glossop manager I ever knew, or he's the first I remember. A great guy who managed a great team.
Didn't realise about Morecambe, I will raise a glass in Tony's memory when watching their game against Spurs on Sunday.

Cheers Kelly. I believe Tony is still remembered with great affection at Morecambe by the older fans. Have been talking also to Dave Ahern, a regular player at the time this week, who, like me would have attended his funeral if we had known earlier. We never moved much further up than mid table in Tony's reign but the comradeship between the management, officials, players and supporters were great at the time, we never reached the heights of 2009 and 2015 but it was a good period of consolidation on a shoestring.
