A very pleasing away win today as GNE were the only team in the lower half of the table to win. Worksop were NCEL Champions last year and this is their first year at Step 4. A very healthy crowd of 419 watched a game played in very windy conditions which made good football difficult.
To be honest, the first hour felt very forgettable. There were a lot of mistakes and neither side could do anything with the few half-chances which came their way. GNE were gritty in defence but early in the second half Worksop pushed forward and seemed to be getting on top. That period passed however and from around 65 minutes GNE came much more into the game and looked increasingly dangerous as they worked hard to pass rather than hoof the ball. it was substitute Sheriff who broke the deadlock on 84 minutes when he ran onto a good move down the left with a clinical finish into the far corner. Worksop then threw everything at us and we had to survive several set pieces and a couple of close calls. In the 90th minute, a great run and cross from Coulibaly was met with a decisive header from Maeico and the game was ours. There was still time for Coulibaly to go on another run - this time through the centre of the Worksop defence but his final shot was just wide. Worksop's form has been much better away from home so we will have to be up for the game a week on Tuesday at the Amdec.
