Excerpt from Glossopsouthends post Quote So another poor crowd at neighbouring Hyde Utd. I see it is Non-League Day on Saturday to promote lower step football clubs. Free entry is not really the answer, is it? Perhaps more local leagues with less travelling for fans and more local derbies. Players not having to travel so far for training and playing thus much fresher. Too many 'meaningless' fixtures. Perhaps the Non- League clubs in Manchester area could be allowed to kick off at times when City and Utd are not playing or not on the box. Unquote I find this statement so true and upsetting. Let's have more suggestions as to how GNE can help
Is GNE value for money? My season ticket at City is £320 that works out at £17 per game to watch one of the best teams in the world, with all the mod-cons too. £8 to watch a bunch of second rate amateurs trying to kick the air out of the ball seems a bit steep to me. TV football is far more appealing in the winter.
Not sure what the answers are, but in years gone by in the NWCL, when I first starting going to GNE games, crowds of 150 were considered good. Not sure the league GNE plays in makes much difference to those attending home games.
I'd suggest summer football as the way forward, but I know that wouldn't be popular among those who regularly attend non-league games.

I think GNE is value for money. No travel into town involved, an afternoon with a great bunch of people, good banter, good beer at cheap prices, nice food at excellent prices and an entertaining match too. Of course, if you just see them as "second rate amateurs" then i suppose you see it differently. But I don't think that we should make too much of the crowds. We do better than many others. If they need to increase crowds then GNE need wins in the league and a good cup run. Easier said than done...
Is GNE value for money? Well! Having supported OAFC for most of my life, I would have to say yes. It’s tough being a latics fan. Although I’ve had many frustrating matches at GNE with long air ball, I would have to say ‘ second rate amateurs’ is a bit hard. We are playing some very good football this season, with some ‘class’ individual players. I was surprised and elated to see we kept our best player this season, especially as reports said he had left. I am sure more ‘Giving thumping’s’ are on the cards and I am, in no way worried about staying in the league this season. Moreover, I personally think the climb is on, assuming we can keep hold of certain players and keep them fit, the GNE are marching on! Av............It

I have been a supporter of “ one of the best teams in the world” , Man City , for 60 years and I wish I wasn’t because I find everything about Premiership football really depressing. No real feeling for the club itself, very little chance that the vast majority of the present players will have nothing to do with the club and Man City in years to come. When I moved to Glossop in 2002 I really enjoyed the club because they were honest lads and they had a relationship with the club and you knew most would be back the next season. The crowd and players had a meaningful relationship which meant you were watching people you almost cared about and themselves had a real feeling for GNE. I feel the last few years have been the opposite of that, constant turn over of players and managers and a disconnect between team and spectators and unfortunately this has become a bigger problem the higher up the league ladder you go. What the club ideally needs is a few years of consistency ,even if it means winning more games at a lower level, so a crowd can look forward to seeing games which are competitive and mainly wins. Nothing breeds interest and crowds like success as we all remember from our Wembley years. Maybe there is a limit about what level of football a town like Glossop can realistically support without large investment over and above gate receipts. ? Watching a team win always feels better value for money !
