Today is the anniversary of the death of Eric Haydock. Eric was a founder member and bass player of the Hollies which he left in 1966 at the height of the Hollies fame. He went on to form several smaller bands which never saw him get to the heights of the Hollies but his big love was GNE. He would always be seen at GNE's home games in the Summer time with his little dog, Jack, and he also went to a quite few away games. He had a love hate relationship with referees and could often be heard venting his spleen at the referee and also about the cold weather in Glossop and that he is never coming to another game. Yet the next home game he would be there again swearing at the referee, the liners, the players, me and anyone else he thought deserved it. But he loved watching GNE and I for one, will be remembering a good friend today.
Hear, hear. Nice post. Used to have many hilarious Sunday mornings on the hills with Eric when he was a member of the Powsers MC some 10 years back and looked forward to chatting with him at GNE games.
